We are very proud of the Awards that we win as a school community. Each award reflects an area of our work which is embedded in the curriculum at Richard Taylor School. They demonstrate two of our key goals; to give our children a voice and an opportunity to use it to make a difference in their school, community and world. We want to create confident, resilient, happy and successful learners prepared for the next stage of their journey.
We have received both the Woodland Trust Green Tree Gold Award and the Eco Schools Award for our commitment to ensuring that environmental education is at the heart of our curriculum. Both in supporting the children to be involved in improving school grounds by planting hedgerows, trees and both our Peace Garden and Wildlife Garden. These awards also reflect the importance we place on teaching our children the importance of protecting the global environment.
We were delighted to be recognised for our outstanding work with Fair Trade and The Sustainable Learning Goals at the Leeds Global Teaching Awards this year.
As well as regular success in football, rounders and athletics competitions organised by Sporting Influence for local schools we have achieved individual success in swimming galas and the Harrogate Schools’ Chess Championships.
As a school our commitment to sport was recognised by the award of the School Games Gold Award by independent Assessors for our work in promoting sport and physical exercise for all our children in 2023-2024.
The school currently hold the North Yorkshire Silver Healthy Schools’ Award for promoting all aspects of physical and mental good health, including a healthy diet. We are actively working towards achieving our Gold Award in 24-25.
The North Yorkshire Inclusion Quality Mark has been assessing and recognising schools for their hard work on making inclusion matter since 2004. An inclusive school gives all pupils regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, achievements or background the equal opportunities to succeed. We are very proud of the way that we give every child the opportunity to flourish as a ‘Child of God’ at Richard Taylor Church of England Primary School.
The hard work of our school curriculum lead, Mrs Crisell, and our Science subject lead, Mrs Heard, have enabled Richard Taylor School to become a leading school in the delivery of a vibrant and engaging curriculum for science which has been recognised by the achievement of both the Primary Science Quality Mark and the Nationally recognised Primary Science Teacher Award for Mrs Crisell.
We are proud to hold the Fair Achiever Award
The FairAchiever Award is the final step in the Fairtrade Schools Award, which is presented by the Fairtrade Foundation. The award recognizes schools that have integrated Fairtrade into their daily life and are raising awareness of Fairtrade in their community.
To become a FairAchiever School, schools must submit evidence to an independent assessor. Schools can demonstrate their commitment to Fairtrade by:
• Promoting Fairtrade within the school community
• Teaching students about global issues and how they can make a difference
• Running Fairtrade-related events, such as coffee mornings or afternoon teas
• Purchasing Fairtrade products to sell in the school
• Inviting guest speakers to discuss Fairtrade issues
• Participating in a Learning Challenge, such as an activity around Fairtrade issues that involves at least one year group
In 2024, Mr Symonds, Mrs Crisell and some of the children from Richard Taylor School attended the Leeds Development Education Centre Awards in Leeds where we received a special certificate from the Mayor of Leeds for our ongoing commitment to the work of Fairtrade.
We have recently won awards from both ‘Harrogate in Bloom’ and ‘The Great Yorkshire Show Veg Box Competition’ for our ongoing commitment to promoting school gardening across Richard Taylor Church of England Primary School.
