A warm welcome from our Headteachers

Richard Taylor School is a thriving, happy and caring community. The school was first established in 1785 and moved to the current site in 1973 where it has grown and flourished ever since.

We are incredibly proud of the work we do every day. We have a talented and fantastically committed staff who are totally dedicated to meeting the needs of every child and celebrating their achievements.

Our pupils care about their school and are encouraged to play an active role in the life of our community. We have an energetic school council and environmental ambassadors’ group as well as wonderful ambassadors for sport, science and Fair Trade.

Our older students are outstanding role models who support our youngest children as buddies. Our School Ambassadors play a leading role in worship times and a range of community projects allowing them to become active citizens.

After school many children choose to stay and enjoy a range of clubs which include sporting clubs, board games, craft, gardening, chess and a superb choir who perform throughout the year

We are very proud of the environment that we have created as a platform for learning. We have made full use of our outstanding grounds by creating an outdoor classroom, and a number of superb garden areas for the children to use.

The school has recently been awarded the Woodland Trust Gold Award and a Gold Award from Harrogate in Bloom for our commitment to environmental projects. A flourishing Forest School Programme is part of our curriculum offer making full use of the school’s grounds.

We love sport, our children get the chance to participate in a great range of different sporting activities; in recent years’ we have won trophies in a wide number of events and we have held the Gold Mark for School Sport for the last five years.

We have a rich and varied curriculum and have received national recognition for our work in science and maths mastery. We are proud to be a Fair-Trade school, which teaches our children to have a wider global perspective on the choices that they make.

With wonderfully supportive parents and a dedicated governing body, we really are a school where all know they are safe, loved and can flourish as children of God. Every child grows within our school values of Respect, Trust, and Service.

If you would like to find out more about us, please feel free to call the school and arrange a visit, we would love to show you around.
